"mornings on 2" starts now. good morning. i'm brian flores. >> i'm pam cook. tori campbell is in washington, d.c. on assignment and dave clark has the day off today. in overnight news, a manhunt continues in oakland for two suspects who shot and wounded a police officer. that shooting happened at seminary and east 17th street last night shortly before 6:30. ktvu's alex savidge has been there since 4:30 this morning tells us police have been scouring the area for any signs of the suspects.

alex? >> reporter: and good morning. i did just get off the phone a short time ago with a spokeswoman for the oakland police department who confirmed to me this is still a very active manhunt in the area. as i step out of the way, you can see the street is still blocked off. we're pushing you down seminary avenue. you can see the s.w.a.t. vehicle there. a number of others remain in the area trying to -- officer s remain there. they believe they have the suspects in the perimeter. they are still actively searching. the spokesperson said they've written search warrants to go inside homes as well. this began at 6:30 last night when an undercover police officer was shot and wounded during a stakeout operation. three gunmen were seen running off. police were able to take one of those men into custody. but two others escaped. throughout the night, officers were going through here with

guns drawn, doing a canvass for those two men. >> obviously with an incident like this with two armed and dangerous individuals outstanding, we want to make sure that the community does not suffer any injuries as a result of this. >> reporter: police police -- police are not releasing the name of the injured last night. he did suffer an gunshot to the arm. he's expected to survive. >> the spokesperson said he's treated and released from the hospital late last night. that undercover officer was actually in this area as part of a stakeout, an investigation into a shooting that happened in this neighborhood on sunday where a man suffered life- threatening injuries. so he was part of that investigation and again was confronted by those three armed men last night. as we bring you back out here, this is seminary avenue that

remains closed down. police will continue until they are sure that those two armed men are not here. live -- live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. emotions could run high at tonight's city council meeting when a vote is expect on a controversial consulting contract for william bratton. angry crowds disrupted last week's meeting. some are upset that bratton supports stop-and-frisk tactics. if approved, the city would pay bratton's consulting firm $250,000. this morning, three suspects are behind bars in connection with an armed kidnapping in petaluma. a witness reports that she saw a man kidnapped at gunpoint from his home on 6th street just before 9:00 last night. that witness then provided police with a detailed description of the suspects and their car. police say they tracked down suspects and found drugs and

guns in their car. the debate on stun guns for san francisco police officers are continue with the city's first community hearing. san francisco's police chief is trying to launch a program that would give stun guns to officers trained to hand. the mentally ill. the meeting will be held at 6:00 tonight at the hamilton recreation center on geary. fire investigators say an early-morning fire at a fremont furniture store looks suspicious. crews were called to a shopping center shortly before 2:00 this morning. a fire had started in the middle of a showroom floor. they also found a device that may have started the fire. now, the crews quickly put it out and no one was hurt. but now they are looking for the cause of the fire and information about a potential arsonist. the chp is warning people about a fake mechanic scamming drivers.

he targeted peoples in disabled cars on freeways and says he's with the chp services patrol. he asks for money in advance to buy parts to fix people's cars and leaves and he doesn't come back. this is happening on construction areas on i-5 and 99 in the stockton area of the man is known to wear a me can -- mechanic's uniform with a badge and drive a compact car. look out for that. >> yeah. let's toss it back out to sal who is very busy this morning, especially in the peninsula. >> that's right. the crash northbound 101 near third avenue on highway 101. it really is slow. let's say if you are driving from redwood city from san mateo and burlingame, the crash is right here. the alternate is 80. this morning, you have to pull that out, i think it's very slow. we have another injury wreck, this would be southbound 680 in contra costa county and treat boulevard. traffic slowing from concord heading down to walnut creek.

will slow up -- show up. we were told people were here helping people rebook their flights. this is really an unfortunate situation for the airline who just started to operate here. this is ticket of the ticket counter. there is a notice of apology to customers. yesterday, a and a decided to suspend all of their flights on the dream liners through next monday. last week, the faa ordered the airline to stop flying the 787s until operations could prove the batteries were safe. the faa is concerned of fires because of two battery incidents this month. a and a is helping passengers rebook flights from san francisco to l.a. on a different aircraft. we spoke to someone colleague who had his flight canceled. >> it's very disappointing.

president obama is washington insider, jamie due pru. it's sose nice to see you -- jamie dupree. it's so nice to see you in person. you've covered a few inaugurations in your time. what was your impression of this one? >> the president didn't seem to hold anything back. it was almost line he was freed. we all know what the agenda and platform stands for. but he certainly laid out a lot of markers. when you talk about immigration reform, he's talked about that, he mentioned gay rights and voting rights and climate change. of course, i would remind everybody just because it's mentioned in a speech does not mean it gets enacted but still to put all of those things in a row out there, i thought it was very, very interesting. he was pushing a liberal agenda. you listen to talk radio on the republican said, there was a lot of angst out there. there will have their shot to try to slow the president down.

>> we mentioned there are a couple of inaugural events going on. but the president will be soon getting down to business. will be focusing on this liberal agenda? what are some of the real challenges? >> well, just the votes in congress. i mean, let's face it. when he had control, the democrats did, of the house and senate, they were unable to push a climate change bill through. one would think the votes are not there but maybe they can do -- can do something administratively. let's forget the one thing that was not discussed too much was the gun issue. i mean it was referred to but i think we'll see a lot more on that. let's see what he says in the state of the union address about all of these things. that would give us a further insight into how hard he will push. the fact, there's still a republican house and a democratic senate. >> i talked to nancy pelosi earlier being out here and i asked her about the chance dash is there any chance they will be able to get rid of the logjam in washington, d.c. i know the politics are set aside

during the inauguration but they have to start to get along. >> maybe one on immigration reform. that's one i sense, the chamber of commerce has been pushing on it. but we'll see on that. when it comes to gay rights, for example, what exactly does he want to do? that's the details i think we don't know about. as you well know, just mentioning something and putting it on the table, not only excites the supporters but then puts attention on it. but, of course, the congress only has so much oxygen on so many issues and i think the gun violence issue is gonna take a lot of attention and a lot of energy from this white house in the months ahead. >> we talked in the past how you need to pick your battles and see how much political you want to burn. and there's the economy, the jobs which was his focus for the first term. >> yes, and we have the fiscal

welcome back. 7:24. we're now learning that a child was killed in a horrible crash on an icy highway in ohio. in all, 60 cars and 16 big rigs were involved in that pileup near cincinnati yesterday. one 12-year-old girl died in that crash. dozens of other people were hurt. investigators are blaming a sudden burst of snow for that tragic pileup. >> had some inclement weather,

welcome back. 7:30. this morning, the search continues in brentwood for those responsible for injuring four teenagers in a drive-by shooting. it happened at about 6:00 last night on braden drive and grandville lane. ktvu's tara moriarty just spoke to a relative of one of these young victims. tara? >> reporter: yeah. we just spoke to the sister of one of the victims. she said her brother and cousins were standing out here on the sidewalk. they were waiting for their aunt to arrive to pick them up. when a car pull the boys drove by, words were exchanged, they kept going, did a u-turn, came back, the group started fighting. she said her brother tried not to say anything and then all of a sudden, they opened fire. you can actually see where there's still two bullet holes. one is above the garage, the other is near the tree. now, the sister says that the family is understandably scared because this happened last night around 6:00 off

grandville. investigators say this shooting left four young people ranging in age from 14 to 16 seriously wounded. we also understand there was another person in the group but they were not hurt. luckily, all of these boys were expected to survive. they were struck by bullets from a passing car with about three to four males inside. we spoke to the next door neighborhood who says this is a very quiet community and everyone is in shock. >> i see them all of the time and they play soccer outside. i've never had any problems with that family. >> reporter: you are surprised? >> yes. very scary. >> reporter: getaway car is described as a white, or light four-door sedan. detectives have not said whether the shooting was gang- related. all four boys are expected to be okay. we're gonna be checking in with brentwood police coming up here shortly. we'll tell you know what they have to say.

live from brentwood, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. hayward police are still looking for a hit-and-run driver who smashed into a power pole. that happened at about 10:00 last night on hunt automatic, the crash brought down the pole and snapped power lines leaving more than a dozen nearby homes without electricity. a parked molter home was also damaged in that incident. the driver left his car at the crash scene and ran off. pg&e crews are still on the scene working to fix the pole and restore power to the area. a man who escaped from a california prison has been captured after 17 years on the run. police say 42-year-old jose ochoa was found last week living in a basement at a home in southern california. he had been in a state prison in tu lair ray county for -- tulare county for having a controlled substance sale. he's in prison in chino. the trial begins today for

debra madden. she's charged with stealing cocaine from the police crimes lab. her first trial ended in a hung jury back in october. the jury agreed that madden stole cocaine pickup they disagreed that she did -- stole cocaine pickup they disagreed that she did -- but they disagreed that she did it by deception. caltrans says bumpers on the train did their job and protected the bumpers. fire station 4 on hawthorne drive closed earlier this month, along with stations in la fayette, clayton and martinez. they were shut to help close a budget deficit. tonight and meeting is at 7:00 at walnut heights elementary school. the new fee is causing rift at the irish cultural center. this is video from the center

the issue of sidewalks and homelessness in berkeley will be back in the spotlight at tonight's city council council meet -- city council meeting to develop what they call a compassionate sidelk plan. this comes after voters in november rejected a measure that would have banned sitting on the sidewalks. they say that unfairly targets the homeless. the transportation authority will discuss launching a bake sharing program. this would provide a network of bikes that stations could borrow. this will start this summer with bikes located in san francisco, san jose, palo alto, redwood city and mountain view. meanwhile, it's now been exactly three years since highway crews began carving out the fourth bore -- the big project is moving into the final phase. opening a fourth bore will give the caldecott tunnel four lanes in each direction.

that's expected to dramatically reduce traffic lanes especially during rush hour. >> steve and sal have been anxiously awaiting that. >> me, too. [laughter] sal says it's still slow on the bay bridge approach. >> it is slow. i think a lot of people coming into san francisco are probably thinking is gonna take me extra time. they would be right. they had to switch the metering lights on early in the 6:00 hour. that's kind of made things slow. if you normally wait 20, 25 minutes, today it's 35 to 40. i know that's in the morning, 50 -- that's -- 50 minutes can make a big difference. b.a.r.t. is the easiest way to get into the city. let's talk other things. san francisco 101 traffic looks good as you approach the 80 flit. we had the crash 101 at doray and third, it's gone. traffic is a mess. if you are taking the san

cloudy, rain on wednesday. it looks like a break on thursday. another system, i think some more rain on thursday. a fire in yuba county is still smoldering -- der -- smoldering. at beale air force base. here's more. >> reporter: good morning. this building has been burning for 17 hours here at beale air force base. we understand that inside it's completely gutted. this is just a shell right here. this should be burning until about noon today. the fire broke out in this 44,000-square foot building at around 2:30 yesterday afternoon. it happened inside a civil engineering squad building, it is a two-story facility. when the fire started, theres with one person working inside this building. he made it out safely. fire officials say had it not been a holiday, there have would have been 200 people

inside. one firefighter was treated for minor injuries. officials say this is a very big loss for beale air force base. this is one of the largest. >> two-story building like this housing approximately 200 people. so it sa big loss. but -- so it is a big loss. we'll recover from this and come back stronger. >> reporter: at this point, 200 workers have been displaced by this fire. we're told that a cause is still under investigation. fire investigators won't know until the fire is out that they have to wait until it cools off to go into the building. back to you, tori. >> 7:41 is the time right now. a dozen cars stolen from an east bay dealership. >> more shocked than anything else. >> the theft that may have cost one family business $200,000. the leader of california is

welcome back. and there's a warning in san francisco to surfers about rough waves after several people had to be rescued in just three days. the latest rescue happened yesterday morning when a surfer with very little experience got stranded on seal rock in ocean beach. rescue crews say he got tired, climbed up onto the rocks while his friend called for help. when rescue teams arrived, they told him to jump off the rock. they brought him back to shore. >> it's not a good day for a beginner. ten to 15-foot waves were reported this weekend. on saturday and sunday, the fire department had to rescue five others. high waves and strong currents

are expected today. about 30 weapons were select collected yesterday. now, last week, the county collected 827 firearms and issued vouchers because they ran out of money. san mateo county is hoping people will turn in their unused guns for cash this weekend. their gun buyback is on saturday at the san mateo county center. anyone canner is ren der -- anyone can surrender guns. no questions asked. if you are just joining us, you should know sal says 880 in the east bay is a mess. >> that's right. we have a new crash, southbound 880 at decoto road, between decoto and thornton.

the spokeswoman for the oakland police department, we do know that police overnight wrote up several search warrants so they could gain access to a number of homes in this neighborhood. we do understand they plan on serving several more search warrants throughout the morning here. still a very active search. more homes to look through now. as you can see, we pushed down seminary avenue, the street block the off in this area. i want to show you -- blocked off in this area. i want to show you what the scene looked like as we watched an officer with his gun drawn on top of a s.w.a.t. vehicle here. he was focused in on an apartment building. throughout the night we have seen the same thing, officers with their guns drawn, went door to door in the neighborhood doing a thorough search for two armed men believed to be connected to the shooting of an undercover police officer last night. four square blocks remained lock -- remain locked down this morningge. the situation began to old -- this morning. the situation began to unfold last night.

three gunmen were seen running off following the shooting. one man was taken into custody. two others escaped. the police chief talked about just how important this manhunt is. >> obviously with an incident like this with two dangerous suspects, we want to make sure the community does not sufferer any injuries as a result of this -- suffer any injuries as a result of this. the -- >> reporter: the undercover officer was in the area. the officer was here investigating and that's when police say he was confronted by those three armed men. one man was taken into custody last night. but as you can see here, oakland police continuing to search for two more armed men

believed to be still in this area. they have several more search warrants to serve. still a very active manhunt in the area. there's no estimate on when this neighborhood -- when the lockdown in this neighborhood will be lifted. live live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. protest, are planned as the oakland city council decides whether to approve a contract for william bratton. angry protests disrupted the meeting last week. oakland is looking to hire outside help. if approved, the city would pay bratton's consulting firm $250,000. thousands of people gather near sacramento to remember a police officer killed in the line of duty. galt police officer kevin tonn was shot and killed last week while investigating a burglary and then the gunman killed himself he was a k-9 officer. tonn was the galt police

department with -- with the galt police department for three and a half years. and he also served as military police in the army. the san francisco sheriff's department accused of robbing a bank is due to anear court -- appear in court. he has pleaded not guilty. court records indicate that he had financial problem. ed lee is proposing tearing down part of interstate 280. the idea is to demolish part of the freeway in the south of market neighborhood from 16th street to the king street ramp. the highway would be replaced by a street level boulevard. mayor lee's transit planner said that would create open space for a new neighborhood and could facility for high- speed rail. right now it's just an idea. no formal plans have been made. we want to check back in with sal, slow going on the

out of here soon. so far, 320 flights have been canceled including ten out of san jose and more could be coming. now, this is video of what ana's ticket counter looked like. we're told that agents were here yesterday, helping travelers rebook their lights -- rebook their flights. there is a notice of apology from ana at ticketing. it's a notice announcing all cancellations from san jose to tokyo through at least next wednesday. the faa ordered all 787s to be grounded after an ana might flade an emergency landing because of battery problems. this is disappointing for local travelers who were finally excited to have a direct flight to asia from san jose. >> that's very unfortunate for myself and my people.

trying to fly to japan this saturday. but -- well, they all cancel and they have to change the flight from san francisco. >> reporter: ana just started operating at san jose international airport about a week and a half ago. they had hoped that more carriers would be attracted to coming to san jose. an and is estimated to generate close to 78 million in tourism dollars in its first year of operating here but now with the faa investigating and flights grounded, it's put a wrinkle in the launch here. again, flights are canceled through january 28th. i tried to go online to book a flight in february to see if i could go from san jose to tokyo in february. but what the website did for ana. it basically put me on a flight from san jose to los angeles on a different carrier and then

women on hiller street on january 13th and again last saturday. the women wrote down his license plate number. police did not arrest the suspect. prosecutors are now reviewing the case. new this morning, all gun- related groupons have been pulled from the site. aol daily finance reports says that groupon has suspended deals for carry ranges, and the move comes after pressure from consumers following the sandy hook shooting. gun rights advocates are calling for a boycott of groupon. a man in new ze land has come up with a controversial plan to save mative birds. he wants to get -- native birds. he wants to get kid of cats. he's not recommending people euthanize their cats but instead spay or neuter them and not release them when they die. the plan has many furious.

this morning, finally, getting a little bit of a reprieve here. it's more like a 25-minute delay. at one point, it was like 45 minutes. things are getting better getting into san francisco. we've been talking about the east bay, 880 and we've looked at the traffic time which at one point was 50 minutes now it's down to 40. we do have a little bit of improvement on this stretch of 880 now that the accident has been cleared. across the bay if you are driving down the peninsula, i would say that 18 minutes is still a little bit more than you would like to spend on 101. you might want to think about going down to 280. 238, some slow traffic here as you cross 880. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. well, still cold for some this morning. 20s, 30s, 11 consecutive days for -- especially those east with colder temperatures. that will end. we are gating the cloud cover.

the search continues in brentwood for those responsible for injuring four teenagers in a drive-by shooting. it happened around 6:00 last night on granville rain. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from the brentwood police station with more details. >> reporter: we just spoke with the captain out here e says there has not been a homicide in brentwood in two years. he can't remember the last time there was a shooting. we did speak to the sister of one of the victims that was injured last night. she says that her brother and cousins were standing out on the sidewalk at 6:00 last night. this was in front of their home when a car full of young men drove by. witness says someone in that car opened fire. you can still see two bullet holes where a bullet is lodged in the stucco of the garage. four young people, ranging in age from 13 to 16 were seriously wounded. >> it appears that the vehicle traveled down and had an exchange of words with the

scripps -- victims. some of what was said outside of the car could have been gang- related. but we have no reason to believe the victims are tied to any fangs. >> reporter: luckily, all of the boys are expected to survive. they were struck by bullets with about three to four males inside. that's about as much description as we have at this point. we did speak to the next door neighbor who says that it's a quiet neighborhood and everyone is just simply in shock. the captain agreeing with that statement. now the getaway car is described as a white or light- colored late model four-door sedan. right now detectives don't have a motive. coming up we'll let you know what investigators are doing right now to try to catch the suspects. we're live in brentwood, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. also this morning, three suspects are behind cars in connection with an armed kidnapping in petaluma. a witness reports that she saw a man kidnapped at gunpoint from his home on 6th street just before 9:00 last night.

now, that witness then provided police with a detailed description of the suspects and their car. police say they then tracked down the suspects and found guns and drugs in their car, in one was hurt. at this point. no word of any possible motive. the debate over stun guns will continue today with the first community hearing. the police chief is trying to launch a program that would give stun guns to more than 100 officers who are trained to handle the mentally ill. now, those against the plan say stunned guns can cause major injuries and in some cases, death. they also worry that officers will use the device unnecessarily. the meeting will be held at 6:00 tonight at the hamilton recreation center on geary. fire investigators say an early-morning fire at a fremont furniture store looks suspicious. crews were called to a shopping center shortly before 2:00 this moring. the fire started in the middle of a show roam floor. they also found a device that may have started the fire.

crews quickly put it out and no one was hurt. but now they are looking for the cause of the fire and investigation about a potential arsonist. a san jose couple was robbed inside their own home. police are searching superior the suspects -- for the suspects. the suspects reportedly tied up the couple and made off with items from the home. this morning, we talked to neighbors who said it was hard to sleep after learning what happened a few yards away. >> the police came to our door last night about 8:00, 9:00, and asked if we had seen anything suspicious that our neighbor's house had been broken into, that they had been beaten up or roughed up. >> the neighbor says the couple did not go to the hospital. she also says the neighborhood is normally quiet but that they are now considering adding an alarm system to their property. police in san rafael are hoping new surveillance video will help lead them to the suspect of a violent robbery.

it happened at this check cashing and cell phone store on medway road saturday night. now, police say the man opened fire. three people inside the store were able to escape through a -- through a troop that has bulletproof glass -- room that has bulletproof glass. if you have information, call police. yesterday, piedmont police say up to five armed masked robbers forced their way into a home on estates drive. 30 minutes later, robbers struck again on arroyo avenue. they reportedly punched a woman, locked her husband in the basement and fired a shot. the suspects got away with jewelry and computer equipment. they were last seen driving away in a gray suv. repairs are set to begin today on the bay bridge, where it was damaged by an oil taker two weeks ago. the tanker hit a tower on the western span on january 7th. caltrans says the bumpers that are made of steel and plastic did their job and protected the bridge structure. it's expected to take four months and 2 million to 3

million to repair the bumpers. the chp is warning people about a fake mechanic scamming drivers. he targets those in disstabled cars in freeways. the man says he's with the chp services patrol. he then asked for money to buy parts and leaves and doesn't come back. this is mainly happening in construction areas on i-5 in the stockton area. the man is worn to wear a badge and drive a compact car. tonight marin county's transportation authority will discuss launching a bike sharing program. it would provide a net share of bikes. the bay area's first bike sharing program will start the summer in san jose, san jose, and mountain view. well, it's been exactly three years since highway crews began to carve out the tunnel's fourth bore. the final project is moving into the phase. the new bore is expected to be

open for business by the end of the year. opening that bore will give the tunnel four lanes in each direction. that's expected to dramatically reduce traffic especially during rush hour. >> especially today. it's busy out there. sal, you are starting in oakland. >> yes. one of the things that's been busy is the 880 freeway. and now the 880 in oakland is slowing down. northbound. that's kind of typical but southbound, they've really been slow heading down to fremont. we had an earlier problem that's cleared but traffic is still very slow. let's talk about the nimitz freeway and talk about the traffic heading south. it's very slow from 238. let's go to the next element. that's between hayward and fremont. very slow drive, it was 50 minutes from 238 to mowry. now it's just down to a little more than a half-hour. we've seen some improvement across the bay. we have slow traffic on

southbound 101, 19 minutes. northbound is slow in this area. if you are driving on the bay bridge approach, it's finally getting better. it's about a 20, 25-minute delay as opposed to earlier when it was much more. let's go to steve. >> mostly sunny, higher clouds coming in. that's a sign of a -- sign of a change. there's another huge difference. our system is on its way for tomorrow. today, just the higher cloud deck. so today, mostly sunny, kind of hey city now, high clouds starting to work their way in. the dry pattern looks like it ends tomorrow. cloudy skies, rain will develop maybe over the weekend. it does not look like an extended sketch of wet weather. forecast models don't have a got handle on things. but this system will bump along. that will help bring in rain.

welcome back to "mornings on 2." time now is 8:43. taking a live look at the big board. dow jones is up a little bit right now. the nasdaq and s&p 500, also posting some slight gains. there is great economic news coming in that u.s. home sales rose to a five-year high last year and bay area home prices are up as well. good news on the housing front, anyway. today, marks the 40th anniversary of the roe versus wade decision legalizing abortions. the supreme court decision filled the subject of debate according to a new nbc news wall street journal poll, 70% oppose other -- overturning this. that's the highest percentage since 1989. 24% still say it should be

overturned. many new state laws place some restrictions on abortion. happening right now, president obama is attending the tradition day of a after inaugural prayer service. you can see this is going on right now. after church this morning, the president will go back to work at the white house. members of congress are also back on capitol hill. as kyla campbell report, republicans say they have a new plan to attackle the debt limit -- to tackle the debt limit. >> reporter: they plan to debate that today and vote tomorrow. the debt ceiling is currently set at $16.4 trillion and the treasury department says we could hit that in just three weeks. house republican leadership proposes extending the debt limit through mid-may to avoid missing any payments. so far, several senate democrats and the white house approve that plan but it's another short-term fix. california congressman mike

honda does not want congress in charge of setting the debt limit. they just introduced a bill that could -- that would allow the treasury to pay off the debts unless there's something introduced to stop it. >> i think we should have a progress that addresses that so it doesn't become a barrier or a political football. >> reporter: the country has never defaulted on payments but even debating the debt ceiling could have a negative impact on the economy. kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. let's get you updated on some of the top stories we're following right now. flights from san jose to tokyo are canceled again today after airlines were forced to ground hundreds of 787 dream liners due to safety concerns. airport officials say the wait will be until at least next tuesday. passengers are being put on united flights for the time being. tonight, oakland city council is expected to vote on a $250,000 contract to hire an

outside police consulting crime to help fight crime in oakland. protests are planned by those who don't want to see william bratton advising the department. an undercover officer was shot last night. this morning, the search for the suspects continues. alex savidge has more. >> reporter: good morning. certainly this was a nerve- racking night and morning for neighbors. many stayed inside their homes as this manhunt unfolded outside. you can see the streets are blocked off as we push down seminary avenue for you. you can see the s.w.a.t. team remains on scene. officers are still trying to find the two men wanted in connection with the shooting of an undercover officer that happened last night in this same neighborhood. not long ago, we watched as an officer was up on top of the s.w.a.t. vehicle here focused in on an apartment building. a spokesperson said police are continuing to write up search

warrants so they can gain access to a number of homes in this area. throughout the night, officers went door to door in the neighborhood, searching for those two wanted men. they had square blocks shut down. everything began to unfold about 6:30 last night when an undercover officer was shot and wounded in this area. three gunmen were seen running off. right away police were able to take one man into custody. but the two others escaped. i just talked to one man he said he was concerned with those two armed men on the loose. was it a scary sort of night, i guess? >> yes. >> reporter: that undercover officer was in this area as part of a stakeout last night. he was investigating a recent shooting that happened on sunday in this same neighborhood that left a man with serious injuries. the injured officer, meantime,

suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, a spokeswoman for the department told me this morning, he has been treated and released from the hospital. as we bring you back out live here, four blocks of seminary avenue remain blocked off as police officers continue the search in this area although we do know and have seen a number of people who live on this street have been allowed to come and go this morning. we are expecting to get an update in about 45 minutes from now around 9:30. oakland police are planning to hold a news conference and offering an update on the men wanted in connection with the shooting of a police officer last night. live in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. a man who escaped from a california prison has been captured after 17 years on the run. police say 42-year-old jose ochoa was found last week living in a basement at a home in southern california. he had been in a state prison in tu lair county for being in possession of a controlled -- tulare county for being in possession of a substance for

sale. he case in-- he escaped and is now in prison in chino. a second jury trial is set to begin for debra madden. madden is charged with obtaining cocaine from the police lab by means of fraud or deception in 2009. her first trial ended in a hung jury back in october. the jury agreed that madden stole ocane but they disagreed that she did it by means of deception. hayward police are still looking for a hit-and-run driver who smashed into a power pole. it happened around 10:00 last night on huntwood avenue. the crash brought down the pole and snapped power lines leaving homes without electricity. a parked motor home was damaged. the driver left his car at the crash scene and ran off. crews spent several hours working to fix the pole and reother -- and restore power to the area. tonight, fire station 4 on
